Rivers Hoopers will want to avoid an upset in Port Harcourt on Thursday when Nigeria Air Force, NAF Rockets come calling.

Coach of the Hoopers, Ogor Odaudu would want to avoid the overconfidence shown by his players and complacency that ensured they almost to NAF Rockets in Lagos.

Hoopers had to dig deep in the final quarter of the game to beat the unsettled Rockets 70-64 after a sloppy start when both teams last met in Lagos on June 1 with reports claiming the Rockets battled with some off the court issues before arriving for the game.

Ironically though, Odaudu revealed Rocket’s lateness to the court that day destabilized his team mentally.

“The game against NAF rockets in Lagos was a case of over confidence. When we initially saw them coming in one at a time at 4pm and that they were not complete in the gym at that time and so they were like eh, this game is over and I told them this game is not played on paper but played on the court," said Odaudu.

The Hoopers had earlier beaten NAF Rockets 91-54 on Port Harcourt on May 4.

“Don’t think because you beat them before means you can beat them again. We chased them the whole game and that is why we are going to sit down and tell ourselves the truth.

"NAF Rockets our next opponents, this is what happened and this is what should not happen so we have started thinking about Thursday we are not relaxing,” he declared.

Odaudu declares that they would dismiss any threat that NAF Rockets might pose on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

The KingsMen welcome NAF Rockets on Thursday before playing against Hoops&Read on Saturday.

Both games will take place at the basketball court on 59, Niger Street Port Harcourt at 4pm.
