ONE of Africa’s finest novelist, poet and dramatist Captain Elechi Amadi died Wednesday at the Good Heart hospital in Port Harcourt at the age of 82.

A member of the family, Bar Wabueze Amadi, confirmed the development to the Vanguard newspaper on phone, saying he passed on at about 3: 45pm at the hospital.

The late captain Elechi Amadi was among the first generation of African writers and novelists.

Some of his works  include The Concubine, The Great Ponds, Isiburu, Sunset in Biafra, Dance of Johannesburg, Peppersoup, The Road to Ibadan, The Slave , Estrangement and the Woman of Calaber.

He celebrated his 80th birthday in Port Harcourt, in 2014 releasing a souvenir edition of one of his plays, Isiburu to mark his 80th birthday.

He was born on 12 May, 1934 in Aluu community, Ikwerre local government area.

He attended Government college, Umuahia and went to the University college, Ibadan where he bagged a BSc degree in Physics and Mathematics.

He served in the 3rd Marine Commandos of the Nigerian Army.

He was first Commissioner for Education in the old Rivers state and also served as Commissioner for Lands and Housing.

He had several honours to his credit. He was Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Education and a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He was awarded a honorary doctorate degree by the University of Port Harcourt in 2011.

He was abducted by unknown gunmen in 2008 and later released after some days in their custody.
He lived in his community, Aluu until his death.

The Director General, NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside described him as a great Nigerian who will be greatly missed.

His words, “Captain Elechi Amadi, certainly was a man of many parts who touched lives in many ways. And he will be remembered for good by many people who met him physically or through his books. He was a well-known author, publisher, soldier and statesman who was concerned about a better society.

“My generation will definitely remember him more for his great books like the Concubine, the Great Ponds, Sunset in Biafra, Estrangement, the Slave and a collection of poems.

“It is regrettable that Amadi passed away at a time when Rivers, our dear state is still far away from the aspirations of its founding fathers like him and most sons and daughters of the state. There is no doubt that Elder Elechi Amadi and other founding fathers will be weeping in their graves at the state of Rivers State. Nigeria and the international literary community has lost a creative giant.

“The departed patriot, no doubt, had a remarkable life and he will surely be remembered for serving humanity with literature and his interventions. May his soul find eternal rest in the Lord.”

How fingers can tell the size of a man’s p*nis

Dailystar reports that Research conducted at Gachon University Gil Hospital in South Korea found that guys with a smaller difference in length between their two fingers – which is also known as the 24:4D ratio – were more likely to have bigger p*nis.

So what this means is that the shorter a man’s index finger was in relation to his ring finger, the longer his erect p*nis is likely to be.

Scientists aren’t exactly sure why there’s a correlation, but they think it has something to do with the hormones we’re exposed to in the womb.

On the other hand, some rumoured links between your fingers and your penis size aren’t so factual.

It’s long since been said that the distance between your thumb and index finger – when you hold your hand in an L-shape – is the same as the length of your p*nis.

However, there is no scientific evidence to back this up at all.

What your feet REALLY say about your p*nis size

Lots of people think you can tell how big a guy’s penis is by looking at other parts of his body, like his hands or feet. Urban legend says that a man’s todger is roughly half as big as the size of his shoe, so it’s not surprising that scientists have delved into the matter.

Researchers in the UK measured the size of 104 lads’ shoes and p*nises to test out the theory and see if it really stands up.

To make sure the results were as accurate as possible, doctors did the measuring so men wouldn’t overestimate how much they were packing downstairs.

They noted down the length of each guy’s flaccid penis when it was fully stretched to give an indication of how big their penises were when erect.

Scientists found that shoe sizes ranged from 5.5 to 13 while schlong lengths were between 2.4 inches and 7.1 inches.

Odufa: What manner of love?

A book review

By China Acheru

How do you go from being in love to harbouring distrust, disdain and outright hatred?

From '....Even if you were diagnosed positive for HIV AIDS, Anthony Mukoro, I will gladly share the disease with you; we can be positive together....' to ....'This Tony, you will suffer! You will beg to die but will never see death. I curse you with my breasts! You will live and die a wretch!?'

You will never know any of these unless you read Othuke Ominiaboh's Odufa.

Odufa is supposed to be a tragic romantic tale, but is it? Was that really romance, or was it a tale of two people, who hid behind their perceived love in a bid to dominate each other? Was it outright deceit or witchcraft?

Set in Lagos, Kano and Delta States, Tony thinks he is about to die and makes one last, bizarre request to the girl of his dreams, who surprisingly accepts but is she truthful in her dealings? Come to think of it, what kind of girl would accept such a proposition?

Othuke Ominiabohs offers a compelling narrative which brings to life this emotional roller coaster of a novel.

Odufa is highly recommended to lovers of a good old love story; lovers of a romantic tragedy and if you simply love to have some thrill in your life, then you need to read this book.

Odufa was a young woman without a past (at least a past not known to Anthony) while Anthony was a man without a future, (A future Odufa knew he didn’t have). A union between both is surely a guaranteed recipe for disaster!

The book, Odufa gets five stars from me (and if you know me well, I do not give out stars easily).

Copies are available at Salamader Café in Abuja, The Hub Stores, Lekki Shoprite, Patabah Books, Surulere, Laterna Books in Victoria Island, The Booksellers in Abuja and Bookville in Port Harcourt.

Mo Abudu is the only African among Business Insiders’ top 100 visionaries

Picture
By Oreoluwa Peters

Chairman/CEO of Ebony Life TV, Mosunmola Mo Abudu has made the list of The Business Insider’s Top 100 creators and business visionaries creating value for the world.

The media personality is 56th on the list  – rubbing shoulders with likes of Mark Zuckerberg CEO of Facebook, Bill and Melinda Gates, Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, and many others.

Being the only African on the list is another remarkable feat in itself – even as she came ahead of founders of world-renowned corporations such as Snapchat, Linkedin, Spotify, Zara, Uber, amongst many.

Here’s what the US magazine wrote about Mo Abudu.

“Mosunmola “Mo” Abudu is chairman and CEO of one of Africa’s most successful new media ventures — the Nigeria-based television network EbonyLife TV, which endeavors to tell real African stories and change the conversation around the continent.

Growing up in the UK raised by Nigerian parents, Abudu was subjected to slews of ignorant, “mind-boggling” comments and questions about African life and culture (“Do you guys live in trees?”), which triggered a desire to dispel the world’s inaccurate perceptions.

“Somewhere deeply buried in my subconscious was a need to tell Africa’s story. My burning desire is just to tell everybody: Listen, we’re not a bunch of savages. We really are gifted,” she told the Independent.

Abudu took an unorthodox route to entertainment. She returned to Nigeria in the early 1990s, working as the head of HR for ExxonMobil until 2000, when she left to launch her own HR consulting firm and, several years later, a hotel in Lagos as well. In 2006, she decided to ditch the corporate world and break into TV. She started “Moments with Mo,” which became the first daily talk show syndicated across the continent, landing high-profile guests like Christine Lagarde, head of the International Monetary Fund, and Hillary Clinton, then the US Secretary of State.

In 2013, Abudu launched EbonyLife, where she produces a wide array of TV shows, from her own talk show to an African version of “Desperate Housewives,” which she landed in a deal with Disney. She has also inked content distribution deals with CBS and Netflix. The network now provides premium content to to 49 countries across Africa, as well as the UK and the Caribbean.”

In response to the accolade, Mo Abudu said, “This is a big moment for the entire EbonyLife TV team. Our goal remains to tell African stories and we do that by annually producing over 1000 hours of premium, original and home grown entertainment programming content. From Talk, Entertainment, Reality, Comedy, Drama, Lifestyle and Factual the channel boasts exclusive ownership of 90% of the content.”

Cool FM's Femi & The Gang In Public Fallout Over Embezzlement, Betrayal & More

17/6/2016

PictureFemi and the Gang: When the going was good, really good
Femi and the Gang is one of the more popular Nigerian Sports  crew that air shows on Cool FM, Wazobia and Nigeria Info Networks and it was quite the surprise when the head of the gang Femi Obong-Daniels, tweeted the”sack”of 3 members of the team – Deji, Okon and Fiona.

According to Femi, the sack was because the radio station had to downsize all departments due to the economic condition currently being experienced in the country.

Hours after he posted his tweets, Deji Faremi and Kelechi Nkoro (two ex-members of the team) opened up on twitter on what actually went down.

NB: Its a very long thread of tweets and a lot of patience will be required while going through it Lol

See the whole drama below of the Femi and the gang crew below

Note that each screenshot should be read from the bottom to the top

We’ll start with Femi’s tweets

Now this is not the first time this is happening in the Nigerian sports journalism scene. Only recently, Chinasia “Chinnky” Ibonye who is very popular with the City FM sports crew with the show "sports city" left the station after a similar misunderstanding.

Now there have been other casualties as well like Sayo Owolabi who left Inspiration FM and Oma Akatugba who has now left the shores of the country and is now based in Germany but I wouldn't want to get into all that now. That will be a story of another day.

One just keeps wondering why this type of scenario is becoming a trend in the industry.

The struggles of OJB Jezreel, The Ache in His Death

By Ayodele Olubuse (www.eraveng.com)

Veteran and legendary music producer, OJB Jezreel in 2013 announced that his two kidneys had stopped working and needed N17m to undergo a successful transplant in India.

He said “God willing, I have like eight to ten weeks more to get the transplant done. It’s strange, I still walk around a little. I can’t eat much though. I trust God and Nigerians for their financial support”

This news shocked the music world with the understanding that OJB Jezreel has limited time to live if funds cannot be raised for the kidney transplant.

As a matter of life and death, donations started from different quarters of the country but a lot of Nigerian artistes, especially those he worked with weren’t coming out to donate.

They were reports that certain celebrities had donated towards OJB’s surgery which later turned out to be false. It was reported that pop star D’banj donated seven million Naira and Wizkid donated one million Naira but those claims were later refuted by OJB’s camp.

A lot of Nigerians wondered why so many A list artistes were not coming out to support the award winning producer.  Afterwards, there was outrage on the social media which made some Nigerian celebrities to lend their hand of support to OJB Jezreel.

Some of the celebrities that donated were Julius Agwu, Ruggedman, Psquare, DJ Jimmy Jatt,  Don Jazzy, Dele Momodu, Mercy Johnson, amongst others.

Rotimi  Ameach, the then Governor of River State supported OJB with a sum of $100,000 which was N16m back then. It was the life booster for OJB.

In August 2013, OJB Jezreel travelled to India and had a successful kidney transplant, with his wife, Mabel as the donor of the kidney. After returning to the country, OJB Jezreel joined his colleagues in the industry to continue the music business.

However, the quest won’t last long as the Pretete crooner continued to battle kidney  problems which many attributed to the complications from the kidney transplant surgery he had about two years ago.

Sources revealed that OJB had a relapse about two weeks ago and had to be placed on dialysis but situation worsened on Monday leading to his death in the early hours of Tuesday July 14, 2016.

The late music producer’s body was immediately deposited in a morgue at the General Hospital, Isolo, Lagos. He is survived by three wives, Mabel, June and Korede, and eight children.
